Tea parties are the best way to enjoy the Spring sunshine, and one charity decided to throw one in a township to give the community a reason to smile.
Johannesburg, South Africa (27 September 2019) – Tea parties are not exclusive to the Queen, little girls or bridesmaids. Recently, the ‘Charity Begins With Me’ organisation decided to throw a tea party for a local township.
They got biscuits, homemade scones, cakes, koeksisters and more to make the day a special one. The tea party was hosted for no other reason than that the charity wanted to do something good for the community. The women within the community do so much to ensure each child is watched over. They often go above and beyond to care for their fellow community members.
As we have been saying today, community spirit is a big part of what is making South Africa bounce back. The more we engage with each other on a positive level, the more chance South Africa has of thriving.
‘Charity Begins With Me’ embodies the concept of community engagement. Every weekend they run programmes for the local community, and the hard work is paying off. The community is slowly starting to thrive.
Stephen Ferreira started ‘Charity Begins With Me‘ shortly after he was first diagnosed with cancer. He realised he could do so much more with the life he had left and quickly set up the charity as a way to give back.
He has run the charity throughout his chemotherapy treatments, remission and sadly, his relapse. Whatever battles he faces in his own life, it is those of others that give him the strength to push through.
We have shared many of Stephen’s projects here on Good Things Guy and are always in awe of what he comes up with. Each month he is doing something new and empowering for disadvantaged people.
The latest, a tea party for the women who do so much. During the celebrations, all the Gogos were rounded up in one room and honoured for their contributions. These women not only raised their own children but their grandchildren too.
