Woman dressed as a bush to watch her sister get engaged

Born only a year apart, Therese Merkel and her sister Rachel have been inseparable all their lives, including the moment Rachel got engaged.

Wisconsin, United States – Therese Merkel has gone viral for her over-the-top (but totally brilliant) effort to watch her sister get engaged, she dressed as a bush. She shared the images on Twitter and people are loving her dedication to her older sister.

As soon as Therese found out that her sister’s boyfriend was planning to propose, she made sure he knew she needed to be included. The funny part was that Therese’s sister Rachel had had the very same conversation with her boyfriend, Andrew Philibeck. While they had been discussing the possibilities of spending their lives together, Rachel had casually mentioned that her sister had to be present on the big day, if it were ever to take place.

When Andrew told Therese this, they hatched a plan to make it happen but still let the engagement be a surprise. In an interview with Buzzfeed, Therese discussed their plans to make the special day happen.

“We came up with a ton of hilarious ideas that were totally ridiculous, we were like, how funny would it be if I was a bush or something?”

Andrew then found a “ghillie suit” online and ordered it. The word ghillie is an old Scottish term for a special kind of game warden and today the suits are used by snipers and hunters.

He planned the engagement for the next month and on the day, decorated the entire area with flowers and lanterns. They were in quite a green space, so it would be easy for Therese to blend into the background without being noticed.

“She was so well hidden with the ghillie suit in the bushes that I couldn’t find her so I was nervous that she wasn’t even there,” – Andrew Philibeck

After Andrew popped the question and Rachel said yes, Therese popped out to surprise her sister. Rachel was perplexed as to why Therese was a bush, but once Andrew explained, she was overcome with laughter and tears for the effort her two favourite people went through to make her day special.

Many of the Twitter users who have seen Therese’s Tweet are now saying that the surprise has set a new standard for siblings being involved in engagements.
