Maia thought peppermint belonged in toothpaste and chewing gum. Then she tried peppermint tart.

South Africa (21 September 2026) – There are some South African classics you simply have to try, and peppermint tart has officially made the list for Maia.

The Vietnamese content creator, who is married to a South African, has been documenting her discoveries of all things South African, and this time she found herself trying peppermint tart cream for the very first time.

And judging by her reaction, she was NOT prepared for how good it would be.

Maia admitted she was initially sceptical because peppermint immediately made her think of toothpaste. Back home in Vietnam, she explained, peppermint is more commonly associated with chewing gum and mints rather than desserts or chocolate.

But one taste of the peppermint tart cream changed her mind very quickly.

“Dang! What am I supposed to do if I ever leave South Africa?”

She described it as a “flavour explosion” and admitted she finally understood why peppermint tart is considered a South African classic.

Another South African discovery successfully completed.
