R's PETCO

For as long as we can remember, it has been all about the three Rs; reduce, reuse and recycle. There was even a song about them, but now it’s about eight Rs.

Global (30 January 2020) – Everyone is now taking steps to better their carbon footprint and to make better choices that will benefit the planet. As the movement has grown, so has the opportunities to do more with what we have.

Jack Johnson wrote a song about the three R’s in 2006 for the Curious George movie. It was how we learned about the three Rs.

In 2015 people came up with the seven Rs and now there are eight. These eight should cover every aspect of life and help people navigate how to be the most effective. Upon researching them, there are a few variations of the Rs so should you prefer others, let us know.

Some people prefer Regift, Refill or Recover.

Rethink

Rethink your choices – educate yourself on the things you use most in life and how to change.

Refuse

Refuse single-use items and any products that are detrimental to the environment.

Reduce

Reduce your carbon footprint anyway you can.

Refurbish

Refurbish items in your home instead of replacing them out for new things.

Repair

Repair household items and clothing instead of sending them to landfill.

Repurpose

Repurpose items you planned to throw away.

Recycle

Recycle anything you cannot Rethink, Refuse, Reduce, Refurbish, Repair or Repurpose.
