The Endangered Wildlife Trust paid tribute to Fury, a conservationist and ally in protecting wildlife, sending him off with the honour he deserved!

South Africa (07 July 2020) – Canine rangers are some of the noblest conservationists around. Working with handlers that become family, these canines face incredible dangers to protect our local wildlife. The Endangered Wildlife Trust (EWT) recently honoured a fallen hero.

Fury worked as a sniffer dog, checking vehicles coming and going from game reserves, sniffing out ammunition and wildlife products. He was partnered with Shay, who says he will never be forgotten. The duo spent every moment together; their bond was a deep one.

The loss of Fury is a big one to all that loved him or relied on him. The canine that follows in his pawprints, will have some big paws to fill but we know the next conservation canine, will honour Fury’s memory.

EWT honoured Fury’s life and thanked him for all the lives he saved, including Shay’s!

“Tribute to Fury – a true conservationist

During the month of June, The Endangered Wildlife Trust sadly lost one of our wildlife detection conservation canine legends, Fury. Conservation Canine Fury was a great asset to the EWT, and played an important role in protecting wildlife throughout various South African game reserves by screening vehicles for wildlife products and ammunition. Fury worked with his handler/partner Shay, and they shared many good memories, including a few occasions where Fury saved Shay’s life in the bush. These two buddies had worked and learned together for over 2 years. They travelled South Africa as a team, spending every second of the day together leaving an everlasting footprint in the fight to save African wildlife. Conservation Canine Fury, a legend in conservation and a well-known friend to many, has left his legacy to be carried on by many conservationists just like him.

Losing him is a big loss to Shay and the EWT as family. Shay had quoted that “’the legend may be gone, but certainly not forgotten and I appreciate your service, rest in power son.’”

Rest in peace Fury! Thank you for all that you did for South Africa.
