Shopping second-hand and recycled goods are fast becoming trendy across the globe and Germany is setting the bar high with their recycled good department store
Berlin, Germany (01 October 2020) – The world is stepping backwards but it is a very good thing! People are turning back to old ways in order to save the planet as well as saving money. These days, many people shop second-hand in order to save money or to just help reduce waste.
Not only is shopping second-hand growing popular, but people are also fixing their broken clothing instead of throwing it away and repairing household items instead of getting new ones wherever possible.
We are also seeing a rise in people purchasing recycled items or taking part in recycling to lessen their footprints on Earth. With the rise in these markets, it is only natural that businesses would bloom and in Berlin, Germany, that is exactly what happened.
B-Wa(h)renhaus was started to sell perfectly good second-hand items that could be used for many years to come. The department store sells clothing, furniture, cell phones and other electronics to name a few.
Everything is in good quality and all electronics have been checked by their technical teams and come with a one-year warranty. They recently ran the trail store for 6-months and it was a massive success. So much so that four new stores have been approved for around Germany.
“Three years ago, we started collecting all kinds of used goods that people have in their cellars or attics,” city spokesperson Dorothee Winden told Bloomberg CityLab. “Things that are well-preserved and functioning but aren’t being used anymore. The goal is to give these things a new life with somebody who can use them.”
This business model should be placed in every country around the world. Thrift shopping and bargain-hunting are exciting but imagine if you had a whole department store to browse. We think more people would be inclined to buy second-hand or recycled items.
