Souper Troopers and the Gugulethu-Seaboard CAN are helping the homeless community of Cape Town by replacing their missing ID documents; a vital tool in accessing grants and applying for work!
Cape Town, South Africa (05 October 2020) – World Homeless Day is on the 10th of October 2020 and it celebrates its 10th anniversary this year.
The Inaugural World Homeless Day was marked on the 10th of October 2010. It emerged from online discussions between people working to respond to homelessness from various parts of the world. Since its founding, World Homeless Day has been observed on every continent except Antarctica.
The purpose of World Homeless Day is to draw attention to homeless people’s needs locally and provide opportunities for the community to get involved in responding to homelessness while taking advantage of the stage an ‘international day’ provides.
Souper Troopers and the Gugulethu-Seaboard CAN are raising funds that will go towards their on-the-ground social worker, Tasneem Hoosain, as well as paying for replacement IDs R140, transport costs and shelter fees. Without an ID, people cannot access SASSA grants or get government work contracts.
By restoring their access to their ID documents, homeless people have access to opportunities that will help uplift them.
