CPI SA urges South Africans to ensure the safety of all women and children after the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence against Women and Children campaign.

South Africa (09 December 2020) – Care Protect Invest South Africa (CPI SA) calls on all South Africans to continue the fight against women and child abuse after the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children campaign comes to an end tomorrow. The 16 Days of Activism for No Violence against Women and Children is a United Nations campaign that takes place annually from 25 November (International Day of No Violence against Women) to 10 December (International Human Rights Day). Other key commemorative days during this period include World Aids Day on the 1st of December and the International Day for Persons with Disabilities, on 3 December of every year.

“Unfortunately, violence against women and children won’t come to an end following the 16 Days of Activism campaign,” says Dinah Bronkhorst, the CEO of CPI SA. “It is our responsibility to ensure that all women and children in our society are treated with the necessary respect and loving kindness they deserve.”

Be an activist against gender-based violence (GBV) in your homes, communities, and workplace. You can make a difference by challenging cultures and practices that perpetuate gender inequalities and consequent abuse of women and children at a personal and societal level. It is our responsibility to:

  • Reject and report abusers – Act and don’t look away!
  • Do not protect abusers, report them!
  • Challenge and denounce cultural practices that perpetuate gender inequalities.
  • Be sensitive and supportive to GBV victims – share helpful information and support causes near you.
  • Seek personal help to change harmful behaviours such as alcohol and substance abuse.
  • Teach children the values of gender equality.
  • Protect children from exposure to violence and harmful content on the internet and social media, including pornography and sexual solicitation.
  • Develop policies that prevent and deal with gender-based violence in your sector, workplace, and communities.
  • Organise targeted community outreach and dialogues on a solution towards a gender-equal society.

CPI SA is a non-profit organisation involved in uplifting communities through care initiatives such as food parcel distribution, foster homes, day-care centres, and care homes. CPI SA protects the vulnerable by transforming children’s courts to child-friendly environments, offering counselling and trauma support for sexually abused children, and feeding programs. Its innovative interventions promote education, social and economic development. Please visit https://cpi-sa.org.za/donate/ to see how you can contribute.
