Help Up pledges are working hard to clean areas in the Western Cape, and once they have removed all the plastic and rubbish, they green the space.

Cape Town, South Africa (02 November 2021) – Help Up is an organisation that works to clean up problem areas that are littered or polluted by using pledges they receive from the public to pay people that need employment. The people are paid to work in these areas for a few hours. Help Up is managed by Georgia Mctaggart, who gets stuck in with the people that help her.
The projects have been running for several years now, and one of the newer parts of it is the greening of spaces cleared.

The pledges remove all the pollutants, and then once the area is clear, they plant new flowers and plants. The hope is the new green spaces will inspire others not to litter.
A pledge of R250 per month sponsors one person for one 3-hour environmental clean-up.
“Our clean-up crews work for themselves. They plan and present their potential cleanup projects, choose the site, hire their own crew and provide Help Up with photographic evidence of their achievements before, during, and after every cleanup in order to receive payment for a great job done.”
“Future planned projects also include an environmental renewal element, which means that our franchisees will be planting indigenous flora to renew areas around vulnerable spots along river catchments that have become plastic dumping areas and breeding grounds for disease, rats, and mosquitoes”

You can help the organisation pay for more people to work in these areas by supporting Help Up; find them on Facebook here or BackaBuddy here.
