The five jackal pups at the Johannesburg Wildlife Veterinary Hospital are loving their donated meals; they are gobbling them down and growing fast!
Johannesburg, South Africa (05 October 2022) – Five young Black-Backed Jackal pups were recently rescued from the illegal wildlife trade. The jackal pups were taken to the Johannesburg Wildlife Veterinary Hospital where they have been enjoying nutritious meals thanks to dedicated donors.
The Johannesburg Wildlife Veterinary Hospital treats indigenous species free of charge to ensure they each get the very best care needed to recover fully and hopefully live a life back in the wild where they belong.
They recently took in the Black-Backed Jacal pups, and while they treat the animals for free, they rely on support from the public. They have their “one meal” programme that allows people to donate one meal for any animals in their care. They had put out a plea and were greatly rewarded.
The pups have gotten some much-needed funding to support their growing appetites. The wildlife vet team gave thanks by sharing a video of the pups eating their breakfast.
“THANK YOU to everyone who donated #OneMeal (or more!) for these young Black-backed jackals. We are sincerely grateful and hope you enjoy this video of them, curiously exploring the food bowls and enjoying their breakfast!
They are now almost entirely on protein alone as they are weaning – and growing up SO fast. We will keep you up to date on their progress.”
You can stay up to date on the progress via Facebook here. We always love seeing the little patients that arrive at the vet and are later released back to the wild.
If you would like to support the Johannesburg Wildlife Veterinary Hospital’s treatment and care of wildlife, you can find out how here.
