Animal Welfare Champions Unite to Deliver Essential Care to Abbotsdale Pets

Uniting for the animals of Abbotsdale, a team of dedicated NPOs delivered a massive day of veterinary service, completing 52 sterilisations and providing a lifeline of medical care to a community in need.

Abbotsdale, South Africa (03 February 2026) – The dogs and cats of Abbotsdale, a Swartland community with limited access to veterinary care, recently received a significant health boost thanks to a powerful collaboration between several animal welfare NPOs.

By joining forces, these organisations were able to deliver essential services to a community in need. According to The Gem Project Sanctuary, the initiative began with a local pre-survey, which allowed residents to register their pets in advance for sterilisation and medical treatment.

On the day of the event, the Swartland Municipality provided a central venue where the team hit an impressive milestone: 52 animals were sterilised in a single day, while dozens more received a range of critical medical interventions. These included treatment for pyometra, wounds, skin rashes and a case of a dog with a large traumatic hernia that was surgically repaired.

All animals were vaccinated and inoculated against rabies, dewormed, and treated for tick and flea control. Underweight dogs also received Vitamin B injections to support recovery and overall health. Animals belonging to owners without transport were safely collected and returned.

The initiative was made possible through the combined efforts of the following organisations who each played a part in delivering essential care to the animals who had gone without it for far too long:

Speaking on behalf of the organising team, a representative of Tom Ro Haven For Equines and Children said the campaign underscored both the scale of the need in the area and the financial realities behind such outreach efforts.

“Without funding, campaigns like these simply aren’t possible,” the representative said.

“The need in communities such as Abbotsdale is significant, and continued support from businesses, corporates, and donors is essential if we are to continue this work and expand into other underserved areas.”
