At just eight years old, Anna has made history as AfriPaw’s youngest supporter and fundraiser in their ten-year existence, inspiring an entire community by turning a simple cupcake sale into a display of compassion for township pets.
Cape Town, South Africa (28 September 2026) – We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again: you’re never too young to make a difference! Little Anna, in her efforts to support the invaluable work done by AfriPaw, has wonderfully reminded us of this truth.
In the lead-up to World Animal Day this coming Sunday, 4 October, eight-year-old Anna decided to bake cupcakes and sell them in a local park to raise funds for AfriPaw over the weekend.
Supported by her sister, Emily, Anna baked 60 cupcakes to sell for R10 each. Together they raised R600, a total that was promptly doubled by generous donations from patrons who came out to support both Anna and the animals!
“We feel incredibly honoured to celebrate AfriPaw’s youngest supporter and fundraiser in our ten-year history,” shared AfriPaw.
“We are so incredibly grateful for the support, but we are even more encouraged that a young heart has the passion and compassion to look beyond her own needs and do something for others.”
Anna has been lauded as an inspiration, and we couldn’t agree more. At an age where it is easy to get caught up in everyday childlike hobbies or ask for the latest toy, this eight-year-old recognised the needs of pets and owners with less than herself – and did something about it.
She didn’t just bake and sell 60 cupcakes; she became part of something bigger than herself, directly helping the vulnerable community of Vrygrond and surrounding areas care for their animals.
AfriPaw extended its heartfelt gratitude to everyone who supported Anna, including her sister, her parents, and all the park patrons.
You too, like Anna, can support this worthy cause by donating towards AfriPaw’s Fun Run Fundraiser taking place on World Animal Day, Sunday 4 October. Funds raised through the event will go directly toward their monthly Pet Clinics, where owners can bring their pets to be dipped and dewormed free of charge, as well as receive critical veterinary care.
