It wasn’t the easiest week for the NSRI who recently had one of their life-saving vessels go missing. Now, communities are coming to the party and the NSRI’s ‘rescue’ for a change!
False Bay, South Africa (03 June, 2023) — Sometimes heroes need a little help too. The National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI), known for their life-saving antics all around South Africa had a tougher week after one of their life-saving vessels (a jetRIB) was believed to have been stolen from the Strandfontein base on False Bay.
Given how much the NSRI does to keep tourists and South Africans safe in our waters, it came as little surprise that lots of people were more than willing to give the NSRI a helping hand.
While the unlucky jetRIB’s case is still under investigation (reports reveal that a similar vessel was discovered destroyed) there is still an opportunity to do some good—as there so often is.
The NSRI has a campaign to raise funds for more life-saving vessels which are beyond impactful for all of us.
“They are an absolute game changer, specifically for inshore rescue,” the NSRI’s Alison Smith shared with Good Things Guy.
The plan is to roll out as many JetRIBs as possible across the rescue Stations!
Fun fact: The NSRI actually won an IMRF (International Maritime Rescue Federation) award for Innovation and Technology for the South African JetRIB!
No one plans to be in a position where they’ll have to be rescued, but knowing that organisations like the NSRI exist helps us all breathe a sigh of relief for those ‘what if’ scenarios.
While the campaign isn’t for the stolen JetRib specifically, it’s one way to help the helpers who went through a lot this week.
