The Durbanville Majorettes Club has enjoyed a standout provincial season and is now raising funds to ensure every qualifying athlete can compete.

Cape Town, South Africa (09 July 2026) – After an outstanding showing at the first round of the Western Cape Provincial Championships, the Durbanville Majorettes Club is celebrating a string of impressive results. Now, the talented team is calling on the community to help ensure their journey doesn’t end before the national stage.

The Kraaifontein-based club, which trains at Aristea Primary School, delivered one of its strongest provincial performances yet. The junior team was crowned FDDCMWC Provincial Large Drill Champions after taking top honours in the Leader, Subbies, Squad, Display and Overall categories, while athletes also collected several podium finishes and Gold and Silver Achievement Awards across individual and team events.

Among the standout performances were first place in the Non-Prop Mini category, second-place finishes for Kaitlyn Metcalf in Baton Solo, Kiara Kali in Non-Prop Solo, and a second-place finish in the Non-Prop Trio event. Corne Ryke and Peyton Goliath also secured podium finishes in their respective categories.

The senior team also made its mark, claiming several top-five finishes, further highlighting the depth of talent within the growing club.

Founded in 2019, the Durbanville Majorettes Club has grown into a thriving programme that now supports around 60 junior and senior athletes from Kraaifontein, Durbanville, Bellville, Kuils River and surrounding communities. Many of the athletes dedicate as much as 23 hours a week to training, including weekends and school holidays, balancing their passion for the sport alongside their school commitments.

Five club members have earned selection to represent South Africa at the International Association of Majorettes World Championships in Poland later this year, another milestone that reflects the standard the club continues to achieve.

Attention now turns to the second round of the provincial championships on 1 August, before the Federation of Dance, Drill, Cheerleading and Majorettes South Africa National Championships get underway in Wellington from 24 September to 1 October.

While the athletes have already earned their place through months of hard work, one hurdle still remains.

The club needs to raise more than R200 000 to cover travel, accommodation, meals, registration fees, equipment and other essential costs needed to get every qualifying athlete to the national championships.

Club founder Yvonne Viljoen says the athletes have already surpassed expectations.

“Our athletes have worked incredibly hard and have already achieved more than we ever expected at Provincials. We now need the support of the community and business sector to ensure that financial circumstances do not prevent these talented young athletes from reaching Nationals.”
