A new-look Bafana side held its nerve in Cairo to complete a perfect three-win international camp.

Cairo, Egypt (05 October 2026) – Pitso Mosimane said he wanted to throw some of Bafana Bafana’s youngsters into the deep end, and they certainly didn’t sink.

South Africa wrapped up a perfect international camp with a 1-0 victory over Egypt in Cairo on Sunday, with Puso Dithejane marking his Bafana debut with the only goal of the match.

The win means Bafana have now collected three victories in a row under Mosimane, following their Africa Cup of Nations qualifying wins over Guinea and Eritrea.

And this one was particularly impressive because Mosimane made nine changes to the side that started the 5-0 win over Eritrea. That gave several younger and less experienced players an opportunity to show what they could do against Egypt in front of their home crowd.

Dithejane made the most of his opportunity. The debutant struck in the second half to give South Africa the lead, before Bafana held on to secure a memorable win at the Cairo International Stadium.

Mosimane was clearly pleased with what he saw from the youngsters.

“Yeah, it was a little difficult, you saw in the first five minutes that we could not find our feet. It’s normal because we brought in the younger ones. We changed the whole team. It takes a little time to gel and to come in, but as the game progressed, we gained confidence,” Mosimane said.

He singled out Shandre Campbell, Dithejane and the other young players for praise, while also highlighting Lebone Seema, Khulumani Ndamane and Thabang Matuludi for stepping up.

There were challenges along the way, including injuries that left Bafana thin in midfield, but the team found a way to get the job done.

SAFA President Danny Jordaan also congratulated the team after the victory, saying the players had made the nation proud.

For Bafana, it was the perfect way to finish the camp. That’s three games, three wins and a group of players who were given their chance and took it.
