South Africa (13 October 2026) – The hammer is up at SANCCOB! The non-profit’s much-anticipated online auction is officially live, with a fantastic selection of items and experiences to bid on.
Supporters and partners of SANCCOB have donated accommodation stays, safari drives, and boat trips to watch African Penguins, whales and seals. There are also spa, tea and lunch vouchers, and plenty more besides. All of the vouchers are based in South Africa, so there’s no passport required!
Bidding opened on 9 October 2026 and runs until 1 January 2027, which gives us almost three months to browse, pick favourites and place bids. With the festive season creeping closer, it could also be a very good place to find a unique gift that actually makes a difference…
The bidding is for a good cause. SANCCOB rescues, rehabilitates and releases injured, ill, oiled and abandoned seabirds, with centres in both Cape Town and Gqeberha. Every seabird in need is assessed and cared for by teams of vets, staff and volunteers.
This year alone, those teams have accomplished incredible things under pressure. Just a few months back, the organisation celebrated a record-breaking number of African Penguin chicks hatching at their nursery. They have also released many African penguins back into the wild.
Each penguin that makes a safe return to life back in the wild is a win because the species is Critically Endangered. Now fewer than 10,000 breeding pairs are left in the wild. Their numbers have dropped largely due to food shortages linked to overfishing, along with oil spills and ongoing pressure on their breeding colonies.
“By participating in our auction, you are helping SANCCOB continue its vital work of rescuing, rehabilitating and releasing injured, ill, oiled and abandoned seabirds, while contributing to the conservation of our Critically Endangered African Penguins,” the organisation shares.
