Spain threw everything at South Africa, but the Bok Women refused to crack as they wrapped up their European tour with a clean sheet.
Spain (06 October 2026) – The Springbok Women brought their own kind of heat to Seville.
With temperatures soaring and the conditions hot and humid, South Africa closed out their WXV Global Series tour of Europe with a convincing 20-0 victory over Spain at the Estadio Olímpico de la Cartuja on Sunday.
Spain threw plenty at the Bok Women, looking to move the ball quickly and use their pace, but South Africa’s defence simply refused to budge. Wave after wave came their way, and the green-and-gold wall held firm.
It was also their seventh consecutive win over Spain. The Bok Women were not perfect, though. There were more handling errors than they would have liked, while a couple of penalties went begging when South Africa failed to find touch.
But when it mattered, they had enough control. The opening points came after 14 minutes, and it was a beauty.
Aseza Hele powered off the back of an attacking scrum before South Africa patiently worked their way through Spain’s 22. Catha Jacobs eventually finished the move, with Jakkie Cilliers adding the conversion to put the visitors 7-0 ahead.
Spain kept coming, but every time they looked like building something, South Africa’s defence was there to shut it down.
Cilliers added a penalty in the 30th minute to make it 10-0 at half-time, although there was a worrying moment when Babalwa Latsha had to leave the field as a precaution. Spain’s search for a breakthrough continued, but so did South Africa’s tackling.
With Spain down to 14 players after another infringement in their own 22, the Bok Women spotted their chance and took it.
Cilliers finished off a slick move in the corner to make it 20-0, and although the conversion didn’t go over, South Africa were now sitting pretty.
The final whistle eventually arrived, bringing with it another win, another clean sheet and, perhaps most importantly, a seventh straight victory over Spain.
It wasn’t perfect, but in the heat and humidity of Seville, the Bok Women weren’t looking for perfect. They were looking for a win, and they got exactly that.
