When the workload and the pressure piled up at Brakpan SPCA, Boksburg SPCA stepped in with compassion and teamwork to help – because that’s what sister societies do!

East Rand, South Africa (09 July 2026) – Most of us know the overwhelming feeling of having a little too much on our plate: when tasks aren’t ticked off the to-do list on time, more gets added to an already busy schedule, or a not-so-welcome surprise throws a spanner in the works.

The Brakpan SPCA has been experiencing all of this – and probably more – lately. Between the usual financial tightrope walk, a trainee inspector bidding farewell, a staff member injuring their ankle, and the many animals needing help every day, life at Brakpan SPCA “has felt a bit like a soap opera”.

“With our team stretched thinner than single-ply toilet paper, the cruelty complaints kept rolling in. Animals needed us, and the pressure was seriously on,” Brakpan SPCA shared.

When the Boksburg SPCA team got wind of all the drama, they were more than happy to come through for their fellow neighbours.

Despite being very busy themselves, Boksburg reached out and lent the Brakpan branch their incredible Inspector Nkosi, who is currently providing invaluable support on the ground to ensure animals in need are reached, assisted and protected.

“We honestly couldn’t be more grateful. As a bonus, Insp. Nkosi is also pulling double duty by doing some on-the-job training with one of our very own team members.”

Filled with gratitude and relief, the Brakpan team shared the happy news on their socials and introduced the community to Inspector Nkosi – the friendly face and latest addition who will be out, about and on the lookout for vulnerable furry friends.

“A massive, heartfelt thank you to Boksburg SPCA. You showed us what true sister societies are all about. We’ve taken a few hits lately, but Brakpan SPCA doesn’t back down. We are down, but we are definitely not out. Keep your eyes open. We are going to overcome every single hurdle,” the organisation assured.

Now that is what community looks like: standing up to assist and support one another in times of trouble and through life’s inconveniences. We salute the Boksburg team for extending such a wonderful gesture to their fellow animal heroes and hope the Brakpan crew’s trying times ease soon.
