As the year winds down, Business Growth Strategist Dori Moreno challenges South African leaders to pause and reflect, not just on profits and targets, but on personal growth, wellbeing, and the lessons that shaped their leadership journeys.
South Africa (23 October 2025) – As December rolls around, most of us start thinking about deadlines, targets, and wrapping things up before switching off for the holidays. The to-do lists, inboxes overflowing, and somewhere between those strategy sessions, we forget to ask one simple question: “Did I grow this year?”. This is a time when businesses reflect on growth, profits, and productivity. But Business Growth Strategist Dori Moreno believes the most important audit is not the one you do for your company, but the one you do for yourself.

Dori challenges leaders, entrepreneurs, and change-makers to pause before they plan, to sit with the year that’s been, and to ask a deeper question: Did you grow not your business, but you?
“Without this reflection, there is a real risk that next year’s strategy will be built on noise, fatigue, and fear, rather than clarity, alignment, and intention.”
Growth is not always about data. Sometimes, it’s the lessons you learned and the boundaries you set, or even the things you finally let go of.
Through her work with teams and executives across South Africa, Dori has seen how easily leaders can get caught up in the pace of progress or, according to her, “myth of momentum.”
But maybe the real progress is learning when to pause. To take a step back and look at the person behind the title. The human being who has shown up through stress, uncertainty, or burnout and still found ways to lead, create, and care.
For Dori, a personal review creates space to reconnect with purpose and intention. Think of it as less about what’s next and more about what is true.
And that awareness doesn’t just make for better leaders, but builds stronger, more sustainable businesses.
“With 70% of leaders who are thriving still reporting wellbeing challenges, it is clear we need leaders who are smart, but also self-aware. Leaders who understand that their personal growth is not separate from their business success, but rather the foundation of it.”
So as the year wraps up, Dori invites us all to do a different kind of reflection. One of personal evolution. To recognise how we have changed and who we have become in the process. And remember, growth is not always about the numbers, but about becoming more of yourself in the journey.
