Black Friday #GivingTuesday

Yup, Black Friday is now a thing in South Africa too… and that means you either need to put your protective gear on and brave the stores or stay indoors.

Look, we’re not sure why exactly. Maybe its Globalization, maybe its an easy way to get rid of excess stock or maybe its because the retailers really want to give back to the consumers (not so sure about this one). But Black Friday is now a thing in South Africa and the best part about it is that we don’t have to have an “insert awkward American movie about Thanksgiving dinner with weird family here”.

Black Friday is the Friday following Thanksgiving in the United States and has become synonymous with special offers and promotional prices from retailers.

Either way it’s going to be rough out there tomorrow. Expect long queues before openings, some stampeding and fighting…

The economy in South Africa is tough and even though some digital retailers have jumped on the the band-wagon and given a “Black Friday” 10% off… grocery stores like Checkers and Game are giving up to 50% off. A welcome relief to soaring costs.

This year, Black Friday falls on 25 November, with many South African online and brick-and-mortar retailers running multi-day specials and one-day-only deals this Friday.

Malls have also tried to ease the sale madness with parking specials… and even park and ride services!

In Johannesburg, at Rosebank Mall you’ll get free parking on the day. At Sandton City the mall’s management will be offering a rate of R5 for parking.

Menlyn Park Shopping Centre in Pretoria just had a revamp so people can expect opening specials combined with Black Friday specials for the ultimate shopping experience.

To help control parking chaos they’ve got a park-and-ride service from Glenstantia Primary School running every 30 minutes from 8am to 5pm.
