Founder of Hazile Group, Dr Phindile Cebekhulu-Msomi, is driving climate-smart solutions while inspiring a new generation of women leaders.

Johannesburg, South Africa (13 August 2025) – Dr Phindile Cebekhulu-Msomi describes herself simply as a woman with a vision to transform South Africa’s food and water status.

It is this vision that drives her work as Founder and CEO of Hazile Group, a Black woman-led enterprise focused on climate-smart development through hydroponic farming, water remediation and renewable energy. Hazile’s projects are designed to address South Africa’s most pressing environmental and social challenges, while advancing inclusive and sustainable progress through innovation.

“I’m committed to shaping a sustainable and inclusive future one that’s rich with opportunity for all, especially those in rural communities who have long been overlooked.” Dr Phindile says.

Hazile was founded to address some of the country’s most urgent environmental and social challenges by pushing innovative, regenerative solutions that not only protect the planet but also empower communities.

Operating where agriculture, clean water and green energy intersect, Hazile is a multidisciplinary enterprise that drives inclusive and sustainable progress. Dr Phindile’s approach aligns closely with several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

“Empowering women and youth is not just a mission it’s a necessity if we want to create lasting change and truly transform our communities.”

Her leadership extends beyond Hazile. She is also the founder of Acumind Consulting, a boutique advisory and human capital firm specialising in Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) integration and organisational optimisation, as well as Basadi Bakopane, a non-profit that empowers women and youth in underserved communities. She serves on several boards, including the Water Institute of Southern Africa and Sisters Working in Film and Television, reflecting her wide-ranging commitment to social change.

Resilience and boldness define Dr Phindile’s journey.

“Being bold is building even when the odds are stacked against you and rising anyway, not just for yourself, but for the generation of women behind you,” she explains.

This courage has seen her overcome setbacks and continue to innovate and inspire.

Her efforts were recently recognised with the 2025 Veuve Clicquot Bold Future Award a prestigious honour celebrating her impact. Yet, for Dr Phindile, such accolades serve as motivation to keep pushing forward.

“It has changed my view on boldness. I am saying to myself ‘kudos on you girl for not giving up’. It has given me an extra drive that somebody sees me and sees that I am making a difference. I want to continue being on platforms people can reach.”

Looking ahead, her boldest hope is to see a South Africa where food and water security are guaranteed for all, driven by technology, regenerative practices and community empowerment. For young people wanting to follow her path, her advice is simple: never let setbacks hold you down.

“Innovation and technology are crucial tools for advancing Africa’s green economy. We need to embrace them while respecting our environment and culture.”

Dr Phindile Cebekhulu-Msomi’s story is one of vision, resilience, and hope; beacons for a sustainable and inclusive future.
