As an owner-run business, this SPAR knows that now more than ever, we need to support each other!
Plettenberg Bay, South Africa (6 May 2020) – A SPAR in Plettenberg Bay is offering shelf space to help neighbouring stores and restaurants survive the COVID-19 pandemic.
This small act of kindness by the grocery store shows a true sense of community love. This is how we get through this economic disaster… together!
Many South Africans are enjoying Level 4 of the lockdown as they can order food from their local eateries but many restaurants have indicated they will not be opening yet because it is not feasible. The businesses know that they will not be able to pay all their costs by just delivering takeaways, and also not being able to sell alcohol.
The Beacon Isle KWIK SPAR decided that they would create a section to promote the products from local businesses in the area and put a sign up in support.
Read it below:
“Support our Local Businesses!
All items on this table are supplied by local restaurants. They are still unable to welcome you into their businesses.
KWIK SPAR will not add any markup to these products, and all sales will go directly to them.”
The Beacon Isle KWIK SPAR are currently stocking a large range of products from Zanzos, Ouland Royale, Roost and Clare, four restaurants who are unable to open during the lockdown.
This truly is an inspiring act, an act that makes us proud to be South African… and we hope to see many other businesses follow suit!
Nationally, the SPAR Group has also partnered with Good Things Guy to help South Africa.
“Not only are SPAR putting shopping carts outside their stores where you can donate, but they will also donate R1 for every #SPARdonate to the SPAR Lodestar foundation feeding scheme!!!”
Together, Good Things Guy and SPAR have launched a Backabuddy fund for anyone who would like to donate funds to help feed South Africa and together with the SPAR family have raised over R1,1 million in just 48 hours to help feed South Africa!
This is how we change the world… together.
