Through her studies and businesses, Rhodes University student proves that to see through difficult tasks, one just needs balance.

Grahamstown, South Africa (08 August 2025) – At just 21, Asenathi Ngqobe is proving that ambition knows no bounds. While pursuing a degree in journalism at Rhodes University, she has built a thriving portfolio of businesses, successfully balancing her academic life with her entrepreneurial dreams.

Her journey began in Makhanda with the launch of Braids by SESE, a small hairstyling service that has since grown into a multi-service beauty studio. Today, the studio offers everything from braids to photography, with plans to expand into wellness services. For Asenathi, the mission goes beyond beauty. She aims to create affordable self-care experiences while uplifting her community. Her studio has provided part-time jobs for local youth and opened doors for other small creators to showcase their talents.

Beyond the salon, Asenathi has embraced an entirely different venture, livestock farming. On her family’s land at Kwa Leah Country Estate in the North West, she manages cows, pigs, goats, sheep, and chickens. Funded by savings from her braiding business, the farm began in 2022 and has steadily grown under her hands on leadership. Despite her demanding studies, she travels home every two weeks to oversee operations, market her produce locally, and learn from seasoned farmers.

Her approach to business is both practical and passionate. She carefully tracks profits and losses, reinvests earnings, and actively seeks opportunities to grow her knowledge and network.

Asenathi’s story is more than balancing school and business; it is also a powerful example of youth-led entrepreneurship and community impact. She proves that with determination and the courage to start small, young people can turn their ideas into thriving ventures. Through her work, she continues to inspire her peers to chase their dreams.
