A Coffee Shop in Johannesburg has placed a yellow “empty” chair outside their door to honour all the moms who are no longer with us.

Johannesburg, South Africa (07 May 2022) – A little coffee shop in Fourways has put a yellow “empty” chair outside their store in honour of all the moms who are no longer with us.

Dc Coffee Co has become well known in Fourways for their “do good” initiatives… from donations to animal charities to assisting women affected by Gender-Based Violence, literacy drives for disadvantaged schools and their popular pay it forward wall.

And this Mother’s Day, Neil and Samantha Golding have done something so simple but absolutely profound.

The coffee shop has placed a yellow “empty” chair outside their store in honour of all the moms who are no longer with us.

“Mom’s Day is tomorrow, and whilst many of us will celebrate being with our moms, many will not be able to do so. To show love to these incredible people, we’ve dedicated an Empty Chair outside our store to honour those who are no longer here, those who are far away, or moms who have lost their incredible kids and will feel the pain.

So if you’ve lost your mom, if your mom is far away or if you’ll be holding yourself together tomorrow having lost a child, please swing by and grab a drink on us. We’d also love to have you write that special person’s name on a tag to hang on the Empty Chair. We want to honour these amazing people and also encourage you as you see the tags – to know that you are not alone. You’re loved, you’re being thought of, and we stand with and for you.”

The post has been shared by so many who love the idea.

“This is such a beautiful idea. Second Mother’s Day without my dearest angel mummy. This time of year is certainly bittersweet! Thank you for highlighting that Mothers Day is more than just the gift and for being considerate to those that find this day hard.” – Valencia Titus

“My word! This is so beautiful. I have lost an amazing son to suicide. How I wish he was still here with me. Always made me feel special on Mother’s Day. My birthday often coincides with Mother’s day, which makes it so much harder. God bless you! What a wonderful idea.” – Kerry Nance-Kivell

“It’s my first Mother’s Day without my mom. She’s Flying with the angels but gone way too soon. Lovely gesture – thanks, Dc Coffee team.” – Nadine Van Driel

Thank you Dc Coffee Co for creating a safe space for us all to celebrate and honour all the incredible moms in our lives.
