Six small, youth-owned businesses received a recent boost, new tech and some further inspiration to keep striving toward their goals!
Capricorn Municipal Area, Limpopo (20 June, 2023)—Six small and medium youth-owned businesses received a much-needed boost in the form of brand and tech starter kits, making their entrepreneurial missions that much more tangible.
While training, funding and mentoring for youth-owned community businesses are all important steps to help stimulate local employment, access to technology is an equally important one in the digital era. Taking this into consideration, budding businesses run by young people were investigated to see which tech gaps needed to be filled to help them flourish and, in turn-benefit their communities.
One of the young bosses, Makgabo Moremi, who owns a cleaning products and services business, shared just how much her starter kit matters:
“The laptop will come in handy for me because before I would have to go to the internet café to do my financial statements, and to update my compliance, so receiving the laptop has contributed a lot in cutting down my travelling expenses.
“It also allows me flexibility to do business administrative work at any time, as I can now attend to it at night, if my day is too busy. The banner helps with sales as we are more recognisable, and our customers feel more comfortable to approach us – it works wonders.”
The tech starter-kits handover came as part of the youth entrepreneurship development programme (now in its third year) which aims to uplift young leaders in South Africa through various collaborators including the National Youth Development Agency and several provincial departments.
