The annual Cableway Charity Challenge brought together hikers, runners and supporters to raise funds for organisations working in conservation, youth development and emergency response.
Cape Town, South Africa (08 June 2026) – A hike up Table Mountain has once again translated into real support for organisations making a difference across the Western Cape.
Four community-focused organisations have each received R250 000 following the conclusion of the 2026 Cableway Charity Challenge, which raised a total of R1 million through donations, pledges and fundraising efforts linked to this year’s event.
The annual challenge, hosted by the Table Mountain Aerial Cableway Company (TMACC), brings together runners, hikers, supporters and sponsors for a day of endurance with a purpose. Participants spend the day tackling Table Mountain via Platteklip Gorge, aiming to complete as many ascents as possible between sunrise and sunset before returning by cable car and heading back up again.
This year’s fundraising efforts will benefit four organisations working in very different spaces but with a shared focus on serving communities and protecting people and the environment. The beneficiaries are the SANParks Honorary Rangers, Ubuntu Football Academy, Volunteer Wildfire Services (VWS) and Wilderness Search and Rescue (WSAR), with each organisation receiving an equal share of the funds raised.

Wilderness Search and Rescue spokesperson David Nel said the contribution will help the organisation replace critical rescue equipment and strengthen its ability to respond to emergencies.
“This funding is truly game-changing for our organisation. We are currently looking at procuring a new stretcher and replacing kilometres of rope that are critical to our rescue operations. Support from initiatives like the Cableway Charity Challenge gives our volunteers the resources they need to continue helping people in the mountains and natural spaces we serve.”
The funds will also assist conservation projects, youth development programmes and wildfire response efforts carried out by the other beneficiary organisations.
TMACC Managing Director Wahida Parker said the challenge continues to highlight what can be achieved when communities rally behind a common cause.
“The Cableway Charity Challenge continues to demonstrate the incredible power of community. Every rand raised represents the generosity of participants, donors, sponsors and supporters who believe in making a difference.”
Now in its 17th year, the Cableway Charity Challenge has become a fixture on Cape Town’s fundraising calendar, combining fitness, adventure and philanthropy against one of South Africa’s most iconic backdrops.
