The Reach for a Dream Foundation and the Johannesburg Youth Orchestra came together to grant courageous Hlompho his ultimate wish: gifting him his very own violin, a year of free lessons, and an unforgettable chance to experience the magic of a live orchestra!
Johannesburg, South Africa (11 August 2026) – Music has always held a special place in Hlompho’s heart, and his ultimate dream was to own a violin of his very own. Living with nephroblastoma, its soothing sounds provide a gentle escape from a battle he has faced with immense bravery.
After learning about his love for music and long-held dream, the Reach for a Dream Foundation arranged for Hlompho to step inside the world of an orchestra. The Johannesburg Youth Orchestra Company (JYO) invited him to a special rehearsal, giving him the unforgettable chance to experience the magic of playing alongside a full ensemble.
A heartwarming video shared online shows a wide-eyed Hlompho being introduced to the musicians before marvelling at the orchestra as they bring their instruments to life.
Already passionate about the violin, he spent the evening sitting alongside the players, rehearsing with them, and experiencing what it’s like to be part of the JYO family.
“Hlompho’s biggest dream was to own a violin, and we were honoured to play a small part in making that dream a reality,” JYO shared in the Facebook post.
Reach for a Dream surprised him with a brand new violin, while JYO was delighted to sponsor a year’s worth of complimentary violin lessons!
The post easily tugged at the hearts of South Africans who were happy to see this dream become a reality.
“Awwww man this is just beautiful!! I’m praying that he will be healed and enjoy that violin and his music. Thanks to Reach for a Dream!!! May you truly be acknowledged and blessed by others,” one person shared.
