Rita Trafford was at her local bookstore browsing when she noticed the cleaning lady stop dusting, pick a cookbook from the shelf and sit to read it.
Western Cape, South Africa – There is a secret foodie inside each of us just waiting to blossom. As humans, we don’t just eat to survive anymore. We eat to enjoy and to indulge. Furthermore, we don’t just cook anymore, we craft.
Speaking from personal experience, there is so much joy in cracking open a new cookbook, spotting a few new recipes to try and then making them into reality right there in your very own kitchen.
That is why, when Rita Trafford, saw the cleaning lady at her local bookstore pause for a moment, she took notice. She watched as the hardworking woman slid a cookbook from the shelf, sat down on the nearby chair and started flipping through the pages. She was deeply absorbed in the book.
She was entranced by this stolen moment. She became inspired to act and once the woman had neatly placed the book on the shelf and carried on cleaning throughout the store, she wandered over and picked the copy up. She went to pay for it and then set off looking for the cleaning lady.
Rita then gifted her the cookbook, a simple but deeply meaningful gesture that we are sure made the woman’s entire December that much brighter. Her love for the book would now be carried in both their hearts.
We spoke with Rita about the moment and she said it would have been hard for anyone not to be taken by the sight of the woman reading and not to have acted in the same way.
