Pet Pools

Animal Welfare Helderberg recently received much-needed colourful pet pools to help their pooches enjoy a cool pet summer just in time for sweltering December heat!

Helderberg, South Africa (02 December 2024) — Cool Pet Summer has kicked off for the Animal Welfare Helderberg thanks to the community’s donations of colourful pet pools!

Unlike humans, who have many resources at our disposal to keep cool in the face of increasingly hot summers, animals face a different fight. For those in shelters, the fight can be quite an uphill battle that leaves animals at risk of serious dehydration and illness.

The pet pools (pool shells or kiddies pools) then, come as a fantastic resource for dogs (and maybe a brave cat or two). Not only is it a means for the shelter pets to beat the heat; it offers a place of play for them to enjoy while they wait upon their forever homes.

The pet pools were especially important for Animal Welfare Helderberg at this point in time, considering that just a few days ago, they sadly shared that the shells they already had, were broken.

In the nick of time, hope was restored to the tune of many happy barks.

What Is Cool Pet Summer?

Shade, summer grooming, vigilant water allocation and parasite-prevention are all necessities for pet-owners during Dezemba.

You don’t need to be an animal welfare organisation or rescue shelter to take Cool Pet Summer seriously. In reality, it’s a guide that all pet-owners should follow (find the guide here).

For animal-focused organisations though, the necessities of Cool Pet Summer care largely rely on the generosity of their communities and networks.

As such, the call is on for all of us to step up where we can by getting in touch with organisations close to our hearts and finding out what their summer needs are.

Have an old kiddies pool laying dormant? Donate it! Or how about hosting a fundraiser for a pet grooming initiative? If you aren’t sure who to support, you can find our full list of animal welfare organisations, here.
