According to a security company involved, “the young tiger in Edenvale has been sedated and taken to a sanctuary for safekeeping” but the NSPCA is launching a full investigation into what has happened.
Johannesburg, South Africa (30 January 2023) – Another tiger was on the loose in Joburg today, this time apparently in Edenvale.
Just two weeks ago, a tigress named Sheba escaped her enclosure on a private property in Daleside; jokes were shared, and the memes filled our social media timelines but the animal’s story ended in tragedy.
This morning South Africa woke to a second tiger on the loose. This time in Edenvale. The SPCA in Edenvale issued a statement after the story started trending:
“We cannot comment at this time, but please note that we are all on the scene along with other authorities. We request residents not to engage. Please do not call the emergency number unless you have relevant information, as all our phone lines are ringing off the hook. Please keep the lines open for spotting information or any information you think is needed. Please keep your animals and children indoors and safe until we can provide feedback.“
About two hours later, a post from a security company was shared saying that the tiger had been found and that it was sedated.
“Units have assisted in locating and capturing the young tiger at Fahrenheit restaurant in Edenvale. The animal has been sedated and taken to a sanctuary for safekeeping.” – SWAT SOS247
Orrin Singh, a journalist at Times Live, uploaded an interview shortly after that, with Gary Wilson from SWAT SOS.
