The exhibition ‘Art for Baboons’ is raising funds and awareness for The Baboon Matters Trust, a non-profit dedicated to the protection of these primates!

Cape Town, South Africa (29 January 2025) — The Baboon Matters Trust has big plans for 2025, and kicking things off is a unique art exhibition that’s uniting premier artists and primates— ‘Art for Baboons’.

Set to take place at the Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens in February, Art for Baboons offers the opportunity for visitors to enjoy the work of talented painters, photographers and fine artists whilst supporting the Baboon Matters Trust—a vital instrument for baboon conservation.

Because baboons are so largely misunderstood, are at risk of violence and the laws protecting these animals are far and few between, non-profits like Baboon Matters play a critical role in looking out for this branch of wildlife.

Their Work Includes:

  • Advocacy and legal matters (like obtaining Court Orders that see authority bodies undertake baboon management in certain areas)
  • Education initiatives that change perspectives from fear to understanding
  • Training efforts that help reduce human-baboon conflict
  • Rescues
  • Assisting Baboon Watch troop monitors

In 2025, the Baboon Matters Trust also aims to facilitate a national Chacma baboon population estimation to give the conservation community better insight as to where baboon numbers in South Africa are actually at. This is a critical step in understanding the plight of baboons in our country and how much the needle has moved. It will also offer valuable data for the future.

With works curated by Imvuko Safari & Art, ‘Art for Baboons welcomes wildlife lovers to relish in a little culture while helping the Baboon Matters Trust fundraise for the many efforts they undertake with every artwork purchased.
