A video has gone viral globally of a woman casually picking up a shark and moving it back to the sea… because you know, Australia.

An Australian woman has been filmed rescuing a shark by calmly picking it up from a rock pool and throwing it into the sea.

Melissa Hatheier, 50, released the stranded animal after her mother noticed a fin in the Sydney pool where she was swimming. Hatheier said the animal, believed to be a Port Jackson shark, appeared to be in distress.

The video was posted to the Cronulla Real Estate Facebook page on Tuesday, and has gone virally globally.

“Our in house Shark Wrangler Melissa Hatheier wrestling a shark out of Oak Park Rock Pool yesterday morning! Nice work Mel,” reads the Facebook caption.

“I was just trying to catch a little shark,” Hatheier told the St George and Sutherland Shire Leader. “If it had big teeth I wouldn’t have done it.”

Hatheier told the newspaper she grabbed the neck to ensure it wouldn’t bite her, and that it was fortunately not too heavy. She then threw the animal back into the ocean, watching it swim away.
