Autumn has given the Tokai Forest a marvellous makeover that’ll cure any winter-dreading blues. Where’s your favourite spot to catch autumn’s magic?
Tokai Forest, South Africa (10 April 2025) — We might mourn the end of summer, but there’s certainly something to be said about the beauty of autumn. Especially if you are to head off to forest-friendly parts of the country like the Tokai Forest, you’ll be amazed at what a painting the shades of autumn can actually be.
The Tokai Forest is notorious for its hints of magic. From the ‘Watchers in the Woods’ to the views that make you feel as if you’re in a fairytale and all the painted stones and unique characters you’ll meet along the way, this forest was made for books.
When autumn rolls around, it comes alive in entirely new, gorgeous ways as the forest floor is carpeted in soft ambers and honeys while the last drops of green fight for a little more time in the sunshine.
And, with the recent downpouring of rains in the Western Cape, the forest enjoyed quite the shower that gave the river a top-up and brought the colours out, as Parkscape shared.
(P.S: If you’re not feeling as fond of the rain as the river, here are a few ways to help those most impacted by it).
While you won’t see too many mushrooms out and about just yet (fungi season is still a week or two away), there’s still a host of reasons to kickstart autumn in the fairytale forest.
