As cyclists from roads all over the world gear up for the Cape Town Cycle Tour, SANParks Honorary Rangers are seeking a determined crew willing to put their wheels to the test for conservation!

South Africa (14 January 2025) — If you’re the kind of cyclist who knows your way around a cycle tour, cares a lot about conservation and wants to use your legs of steel for a good cause, then the Boots on Bikes mission has your name on it. SANParks Honorary Rangers are on the lookout for a crew willing to wheel and win donations for conservation at the upcoming Cape Town Cycle Tour!

With 10 charity tickets available, the Honorary Rangers are in the market for cyclists who are ready to take on the famous tour as part of their team. Whether you’ve always wanted to tackle the Cycle Tour or are a veteran, if you’ve got an extra tank of passion for conservation in your reserves, you’re already halfway there.

Meet the SANParks Honorary Rangers

The SANParks Honorary Rangers are a network of dedicated volunteers who offer a helping hand freely to traditional rangers while supporting conservation across South Africa’s many national parks.

From snare trap removals to wildlife monitoring, trail maintenance and environmental education, these volunteers are the unsung heroes of the parks close to so many hearts.

In addition to their time and energy, they’re also hugely instrumental in fundraising for SANParks. In fact, they raised an incredible amount to the tune of R100 million during the 2023/2024 year!

The Boots on Bikes effort then hopes to attract those who, like the Honorary Rangers, are passionate about South Africa’s natural heritage and securing its future. The funds raised from the Cape Town Cycle Tour mission will head toward empowering rangers in their critical work.

The Cycle Tour itself is set for 9 March, and everyone interested in being an honorary cyclist for the Honorary Rangers can reach out via tmchair@sanparksvolunteers.org. Those who have already entered the Cycle Tour need not fret; you can still become a force for fundraising. Simply contact the same email above to learn more.
