Khayelitsha, South Africa (31 January 2025) — On Wednesday, 29 January, over 200 homes were destroyed by devastating fires in Khayelitsha, Site C.

These flames left many families with nothing but the clothes on their backs while countless animals have been injured or gone missing since fleeing the scene of distress.

On the ground since the fires broke out, the Mdzananda Animal Clinic—a lighthouse of support to the animals of the area—have been a huge help in searching for the scores of distressed animals and trying to assist the community in rising from the ashes.

Now, they’re calling on their supporters to help those who have been impacted, to rebuild what has been lost.

“What we have encountered is heartbreaking,” says Marcelle du Plessis of Mzananda. “Families desperate to find their beloved pets, animals suffering from injuries, and a community in shock.”

Marcelle adds, “This is a crisis, and we need all the help we can get. Every minute counts. Every donation saves a life.”
