A stranded Spotted Eagle-Owl, found on the shores of Blouberg beach, faced potential danger from those who seemed to have ill intentions. Thankfully, the kindness of a dog walker named Nick sparked a chain of swift and caring actions.

Cape Town, South Africa (07 April 2025) – Owls are one of those creatures that have a bad rep for the most bizarre of reasons.

One, who had found itself stranded on the shores of Blouberg Beach on Saturday, was saved just in time after a call was made to the Owl Orphanage and was thankfully rescued before folks suspected to have wanted to capture it could do so.

A kind gentleman named Nick had been walking his dog at the beach when he spotted the owl and volunteered to stay with it until help arrived through calls made to and by the Owl Orphanage.

“I immediately made contact with Tweet Tweet Rescue and Rehab who offered to help, they then contacted their first responders,” shares an Owl Orphanage member.

“With some apparent dodgy people around wanting the owl, we had to move fast to secure the owl.”

With several first responders, including UrbanWild Conservation, ready to help, the nervous bird was carefully stabilised and secured to safety.

The Cape of Good Hope soon picked up the owl from its temporary place of safety with Ilana, to be transported to the Owl Orphanage where it will now continue to receive specialised care and support.

Thanks to all those who stepped in to help a little life in need, this owl can go on to soar very soon again.

“Through many calls and messages, this Spotted Eagle-owl found the best help, in no time. Thank you to all involved,” the Owl Orphanage thanked.
