The Doo Doo Monster has been spotting along South Africa’s Sunshine Coast; the innovative system is helping compost dog poo.

Kenton-on-Sea, South Africa (31 May 2024) – Whose dog has a habit of having a poop the second they are free from the confines of your car? It was this regular occurrence that inspired the creation of the Doo Doo Monster – a composting system for dog poop, which prevents more plastic waste and cleverly helps discard of pet waste while at the beach.

The system has been spotted at the beach in Kenton-on-Sea, just below the Bushman’s car park. Dani Hervey saw the Doo Doo Monster after a friend had shared about it. Dani took to Facebook to share the ingenuity of the simple, yet clever design.

The “hands” of the monster are actually scoops which can be used to pick up your dog’s poop and dropped down the compost shoot.

“As you jump out of your car, wait for your fur babies to have a poop. (At least 70% of dogs do this)
Take the cut-off Coke bottle and simply scoop said 💩 into the blue pipe which drops approx 300mm+ underground and decomposes.

Or, coming off the beach with your dogs, simply unload the 💩, and take the plastic home with you.

The pipe gets moved every few months once it’s full.

Kudos Brian Hendry and Mike Wells for a stunningly simple idea, and thank you.” – Dani Hervey

What do you think of this system? Is it something your community could adopt? Next time you see something like this, you will now exactly what it is used for and can help curb the amount of plastic that ends up in the bins.
