Dramatic drone footage has been released of the very empty Cape Town dams… inspiring all South Africans to save water.

The City of Cape Town said in a statement on Monday that the amount of water it has access to is less than the dam levels reported because of the difficulty in extracting the last 10% of water in dams.

“With the last 10% of a dam’s water being unusable, city supply dam levels could be seen as effectively around 26.2%,” the city said in a statement.

Dam levels dropped to 36.2% on Monday, a decrease of 1.3% from last week.

Because each dam size is different, the best indicator of overall dam water levels is the overall percentage stored compared to the total accumulated capacity. This statistic is shown in the bottom line of the table.

South African vlogger Nic Red, captured scary footage of 4 of the western cape dams, Steenbras Dam, Theewaterskloof dam, Voelvlei dam and the Berg River dam.

“Purely drone footage to give us all some perspective on how low our dams really are and to remind us that the water restrictions are real.”

“I have been collecting this footage over the last 20 days so that I could package it in a short and sweet eye opener. please share this video on your social media platforms to spread awareness.”
