This week, eThekwini Enviro Week invites passionate beach cleaners, green-thumbed gardeners, outdoor enthusiasts, and all curious minds to dive into a diverse array of environmental events and explore the beauty of their local environment.

Durban, South Africa (02 June 2025) – There has never been a greater time to take ownership of our environment than now. And if you happen to be in Durban and need an extra nudge to play your part (or to discover where you can start), the eThekwini Enviro Week, observed from 1 to 8 June, is a great place to get some inspo.

Powered by Green Corridors and EEPAN (Environmental Education and Public Awareness Network), in partnership with local conservation, environmental and educational organisations, the citywide initiative aims to connect Durban communities with nature and sustainability.

Enviro Week invites the public to participate and celebrate the beauty and diversity of our environment and to showcase to Durbanites the great efforts that so many organisations are investing in the local environment.

With over 40 events planned, the week features a variety of events that allow citizens to experience nature hands-on.

Mlu Mthembu – one of the Green Corridors Nature Guides who will be conducting guided walks.

From multiple beach clean-ups to raise awareness about marine health, a magical morning of storytelling with renowned South African author Dr Gcina Mhlophe, to informative workshops, tree plantings, composting demonstrations and interactive learning programmes, there truly is something for everyone!

For outdoor enthusiasts, there are plenty of guided nature walks, including an exciting night walk in Crestholme Conservancy and a “Sense of Wonder” walk with environmental educator and passionate insect-and-creature-lover, Andre Steenkamp.

“This is a week for everyone – families, schools, civic organisations and businesses,” says Andiswa Dlamini, from Green Corridors.

“Whether you’re interested in cleaning up beaches or learning to grow food sustainably or getting outdoors, swimming, hiking or gardening, you’ll find something meaningful to be involved in.”

Don’t miss this opportunity to connect with nature and contribute to a greener Durban! For full details and daily events, follow the eThekwini Enviro Week on Facebook or Instagram.
