South Africa is the third most diverse country in the world, boasting a beautiful 10% of the world’s plant species and 7% of the world’s reptile, bird, and mammal species.
South Africa (17 May 2021) – The Endangered Wildlife Trust (EWT) is raising R22k in aid of protecting South Africa’s stunning biodiversity for World Biodiversity Day on the 22nd of May.
On 22 May each year, the International Day for Biological Diversity is celebrated to recognise the importance of biodiversity and consider how we humans impact biodiversity and how we can prevent its destruction.
This year’s theme is “We’re part of the solution” and the EWT is rallying South Africans to become a part of the solution.
Biodiversity is incredibly important as it keeps everything in balance. Throw one thing off, like the excinction of a frog species and many other species will be affected. Whether that means a drop in food sources for birds or a rise in pests like cockroaches and flies, the knock-on effects are felt in the long run.
For 47 years, the Endangered Wildlife Trust has worked to conserve South Africa’s biodiversity and ensure a promising future for its people.
“We could not have done this without your support, but there is always more to be done. We have set a goal to raise #R22kBefore22May, which will go towards conserving endangered species, protecting their habitats, and benefitting people.”
