Re.Bag.Re.Use is a ‘fashion from waste’ initiative that’s long been turning plastic into magic. Now, the team have crocheted their way to a spot in the finalists’ list for an Award honouring meaningful impact:

Africa (27 April 2025) — To the music of many local sustainable fashion lovers’ ears, Re.Bag.Re.Use, (a social enterprise and fashion from waste initiative) born and raised in Hout Bay, is up for a top award honouring meaningful impact!

Re.Bag.Re.Use has officially been named a finalist in the 2025 Superior Achievement in Branding, Reputation & Engagement (SABRE) Awards Africa under the Fashion and Beauty Category.

“Being recognised on a continental stage reaffirms the value of our mission: to stitch together a more sustainable and socially conscious future, one bag at a time,” the team said of the exciting news.

Should the team win, they’ll have yet another victory to add to their tally, which already boasts some serious wins, including those from the Global Alliance World PR and Communications Awards.

All this from an old hobby revisited several years by Regine le Roux.

More About Re.Bag.Re.Use

The social enterprise initiative is all about transforming discarded waste (plastic) into handcrafted fashion items like bags and accessories — each one made with care, creativity, and a commitment to sustainability.

However, beyond simply reducing waste, the initiative creates income opportunities for women in under-resourced communities, using creativity to fuel both economic upliftment and environmental impact. Further, every product sold supports both a cutter and a crocheter while a percentage of each sale is also donated to the Neighbourhood Old Age Home (NOAH) and the SPCA.

Winners of the SABRE Awards Africa are set to be announced in June, and we’ll be holding thumbs for our crochet champs ’til then.
