humpback

A commercial fisherman spotted a humpback off the coast of California, entangled in a blue rope, so they jumped on it to save it.

Sam Synstelien and his crewmates, commercial fisherman, saw a humpback whale in distress, he did not hesitate to jump into action. He and his crew were on their way back to Morro Bay, California when they saw the massive mammal swimming in circles.

The whale was entangled in a rope that was tethered to a buoy. The fishermen radioed for help, but the coast guard said that they would not be able to assist the whale for several hours.

The fishermen confirmed that the humpback had tried severl times to dive down but the rope and buoy seemed to be preventing it from getting away. After an hour of waiting and with time running out before the whale would attempt to dive down in to the depths.

Sam dove into the water with a pocket knife. He swam over to the humpback and worked to cut the rope free. His crew members waited with baited breath, shouting out asking if he managed to cut the rope. He responded with a big proud yes and the crew rejoiced.
