An educational animal-welfare charity in Mpophomeni is rocking a new set of wheels!

Mpophomeni, South Africa (01 December 2025) – The educational animal welfare charity Funda Nenja’s new and much-needed panel van is made possible through funding from a Battersea grant.

“Battersea UK came aboard as our new sponsor, and their support, financially and administratively has been awesome. Their support is greatly appreciated and has made a huge impact on the dogs and residents in Mpophomeni.” shares the organisation in its annual report.

The team at Funda Nenja says the vehicle will make a real difference in their outreach work, especially when moving kennels, dog food, equipment and recovering animals across the community.

“Thanks to funding from a Battersea grant, we have been able to purchase a second vehicle which will be of great assistance in our outreach work. This spacious panel van can easily carry kennels, dog food etc, as well as transport animals recovering from surgery back home. We are most grateful for the generous support of Battersea which enables us to not only sustain our organisation, but to expand our various programs so that we can make an even bigger impact. Thank you.” shares the organisation.

The new vehicle will support the everyday, on-the-ground work the NPO does in Mpophomeni. From home visits and animal-welfare education to running Friday veterinary clinics and transporting dogs to and from sterilisation days.

According to its annual report, Funda Nenja has conducted 745 home visits, delivered over 2,000 veterinary treatments, supported 80+ children through feeding schemes, and ran weekly dog-school training sessions that double as a safe space for local youth.

The van makes all of this easier, safer, and far more efficient. It also frees up staff and volunteers to reach more families. Particularly in areas where access to veterinary care is limited.
