18 furbabies left Funda Nenja’s first monthly sterilisation of the year with the gift of a calmer, healthier life!

Mpophomeni, South Africa (02 February 2026) – Funda Nenja kicked off its first monthly sterilisation programme for the year with a promising turnout. The team recorded 16 dogs and two cats brought in by their responsible owners to receive the gift of a reproductive-free life.

“This not only helps to manage the oversupply of unwanted and uncared-for animals, but it also gives these pets the chance of a better quality of life,” Funda Nenja shares.

Beyond preventing the surprise of an unexpected litter, sterilisation significantly reduces the risk of serious health issues and has been said to help smooth out those stressful hormonal behaviours dogs experience, like the relentless urge to roam the neighbourhood.

While the marvellous Dr Lee and her support team did their vital work, the pet owners were offered something to eat and drink while they waited for their animals to recover from surgery.

Post op, they are transported home in the Funda Nenja vehicle, and owners are given a bag of good-quality pet food to assist with speedy healing and full recovery.

The sterilisation programme forms part of Funda Nenja’s greater mission to nurture a caring, responsible, non-violent generation of young people and facilitate positive human behaviour changes by engaging, educating and building relationships with people of eMpophomeni. Because when dogs are valued, they are more likely to be properly cared for and enjoy a decent quality of life.
