The Cape Leopard Trust, in partnership with Love our Trails and Be That Guy, took a group of young men on a Gents Trek to connect with nature and to learn to be better men.
Cederberg, South Africa (27 (October 2023) – The Cape Leopard Trust hosted its inaugural ‘Gents Trek’ in early October 2023 in collaboration with Love our Trails and Be That Guy. The Gents Trek saw several young men trek the Cederberg wilderness for four adventure-filled days.
The Gents Trek was designed to help young men learn valuable life skills, strengthen bonds, and discover the beauty and fragility of nature. There was an emphasis on the importance of nature conservation, social well-being and adventure is a golden thread that runs throughout.
The young men filled their backpacks with incredible sponsored goods, perfect for the trek, as well as much-needed survival items.
“Along the way, they learned essential outdoor skills like map reading, navigation techniques and water purification, all while sharing stories and laughter. It was not just about surviving in the wild though – it was also about thriving together as a supportive community of young men. As they navigated the trail, they discussed topics like communication, conflict resolution and the importance of empathy, while forging strong bonds and discovering the value of brotherhood.” – Cape Leopard Trust
Sleeping under the stars, learning about the natural world, identifying signs of leopards and connecting with fellow young men, the group were able to grow from good boys to better men.
“The Gents Trek had ignited a fire within them – a commitment to be good men in society, stewards of the environment, and custodians of our rich biodiversity.”
