Several SANParks Honorary Ranger regions came together to donate the Satellite GPS Data for the K9 Unit in Kruger National Park.
Kruger National Park, South Africa (04 November 2021) – SANParks Honorary Rangers work tirelessly to support the SANParks teams in keeping our national parks up to standard, whether by donating benches, revamping buildings, or supporting wildlife protection efforts.
The SANParks Honorary Rangers is a group of unpaid volunteers who give freely of their time to support wildlife conservation in South Africa’s National Parks. There are Honorary Ranger groups in every region. Recently several groups came together to contribute to the Kruger National Park’s Anti-Poaching K9 unit. The regions all contributed towards purchasing the satellite GPS data.
The donation came from Johannesburg, Magalies, East Rand, Wilderness, Vaal Triangle, Joburg South and Diamantveld Honorary Rangers.
“A big thank you to the following SANParks Honorary Rangers regions for their contribution towards the purchasing of the satellite GPS data for the K9 unit in the Kruger National Park – Virtual, Johannesburg, Magalies, East Rand, Wilderness, Vaal Triangle, Joburg South and Diamantveld.
Every time a dog goes into the field it’s harness is fitted with a GPS tracker. This GPS tracker relays vital information back to the K9 centre, which assists SANParks in the fight against anti-poaching.
The K9 unit plays a vital role in the conservation of our wildlife and therefore the data that is collected is critical. In the unlikely event of a dog getting lost, the GPS will help to track and locate the dog.
The generous contributions of these regions will impact hugely and is appreciated by the K9 Project Watchdog and SANParks.”
If you want to become an honorary ranger, all you need to do is volunteer your time. You can also support their efforts here.
