Hilton College learners joined forces with the Love Howick team in an effort to beautify several parts of the town!
Howick, South Africa (11 February 2025) — The Love Howick team were delighted to have many pairs of helping hands assisting their recent beautification effort in the small town recently.
With help from Hilton College learners, valuable time was spent giving different pockets of the area a little extra love, care and respect. A mission to beautify, clean, and make provisions for the future; the efforts stretched from taking care of water bodies to helping new flora grow, ultimately leaving every place better off than when they arrived.
The learners and Love Howick’s efforts saw them undertake different projects: removing litter plaguing the Umgeni River, sorting waste at the Recycling Depot and getting to flex their green thumbs by planting flowers in the Love Howick park as well as seedlings in the community organisation’s vegetable garden. Their efforts also extended to beautifying the Howick Clinic!
A community-driven organisation focused on long-lasting change in the town of Howick, the team’s many missions to better the area are for people as much as they are driven by people.
Having youngsters on board, then, is a fabulous means to future-proof an ethos of active citizenship and create a Howick and perhaps a South Africa in which young people know that change starts when action does.
Meanwhile, in other good news made possible by the youth, the first urban forest in Cape Town is absolutely thriving! Located in Bo-Kaap, this tiny forest was nurtured by classes of school children, each of whom played a role in making a green space for all to enjoy. You can read all about this effort here.
