This Mother’s Day you can sponsor a mom cat or dog that is raising a litter at the Johannesburg SPCA and they will get a lovely treat and a month of food.
Johannesburg, South Africa (11 May 2023) – It’s not just human moms that deserve a spoil this Sunday; the Johannesburg SPCA is hoping to spoil some of its cat and dog moms too. They have created a little sponsorship programme to cover the cost of one cat or dog’s meals for the month of May plus a delicious “fur-mom day” treat for Sunday.
In many cases, when an animal arrives either heavily pregnant or with a recent litter, she is given a chance to care for her babies by the SPCA team. When the kittens and puppies are ready for adoption, almost always the young ones are adopted out and the mom cat/dog spends much of her life waiting to find a home.
While the cat or dog waits for their home, the SPCA hopes to raise awareness about the importance of sterilisation, covering the cost of food and shelter, and hopefully finding a loving home just like the little ones have. That is what this campaign is all about!
Speaking to Liana Marx from the Johannesburg SPCA, she shared all the details about how to sponsor a mom dog this Mother’s Day.
“So just like our human moms are important, we believe doggy and kitty moms are just as important. We emphasise the importance of sterilising your dog, but sadly not everyone does. Thus we receive so many mommies and puppies donated to us as unwanted. The sad thing is the female dog was once a loved pet until she fell pregnant – then she and the kids get shipped away as the owner now simply can’t afford it.
We have put moms and pups together in kennels as we believe the longer the puppy is with the mother, the better as no one teaches you about life better than mom!”
Liana explained that for R300, they are able to give mom cat or dog a treat this Sunday and delicious meals the rest of the month. In return, sponsors will receive a certificate which can be printed, framed and given to their own mom as a Mother’s Day gift.
To take part in this worthy cause, please email Liana she will be able to provide the details of the dogs and cats available for sponsorship as well as banking details and your certificate.
