Injured Owl

We’re all for ordinary people doing extraordinary things! In this story, we’re moved by the quiet yet profound moment which involved an injured owl, a brave man, his stick and a heart that waited patiently until help arrived at a local taxi rank.

Randburg, South Africa (03 June 2025) – When looking the other way is far easier than acting on something that would require an inconvenient amount of effort, a thoughtful man did the opposite and chose conviction over convenience to help the defenceless.

When he spotted an owl while working at the Zandspruit taxi rank, the man didn’t just go on about his work responsibilities, but instead, with nothing but a stick in hand, stood guard, protecting the owl until help arrived.

According to the SPCA Randburg, the kind man feared the bird may have been injured and would have possibly been in danger if seen by the wrong eyes.

“We are incredibly proud of this brave man who took a stand to protect a vulnerable animal, especially as owls are too often subjected to cruel treatment,” SPCA Randburg said.

The owl has since been safely transferred to a reputable and accredited owl rescue organisation, called the Owl Project.

“Well done to everyone who played a part in saving this beautiful bird. There are heroes among us.”

And we couldn’t agree more. Not only do we commend this animal hero’s efforts, but we are inspired by how he stepped up to assist an innocent life, regardless of whatever else he had going on during his work or how it may have been perceived or even criticised by others.

Social media users were just as touched by the man’s heroism, expressing how he has restored their faith in humanity and was a living example for others to follow.

We need more people like you, kind sir!
