KZN’s first responders don’t stop at saving human lives – animals are just as much a priority!

Ramsgate, KwaZulu-Natal (06 October 2025) – KwaZulu-Natal is a hotspot for animal lovers. Over the past weeks, incredible stories have found their way to us.

First, the brave security guards who went out of their way, time and time again, to rescue animals in distress. Then, legendary rescuers took on everything from scaling cities and braving the sea to bring vulnerable and targeted animals to rescue. Over the weekend in Ballito, a community got together to raise necessary funds to win the ‘World’s Loneliest Orangutan’ a ticket to freedom.

Well, the kindness and care for animals in KZN just doesn’t stop coming.

On Sunday, Med-Evac ambulance responded to a rather unusual call. A dog in distress was trapped beneath a vehicle in Ramsgate. It wasn’t their typical call-out, but still they turned up.

“The dog had become wedged between the vehicle’s cross member, stabiliser bar, engine mount, and body, making it nearly impossible for bystanders to free him. Despite multiple attempts using jacks and even a breakdown vehicle, the frightened animal couldn’t be moved,” the responders shared.

Then, a paramedic stepped in to calm the dog who at this point was a nervous wreck.

“Our paramedic stepped in and carefully sedated the dog to calm him. With patience and precision, he was able to gently manoeuvre the dog’s head through a narrow space near the engine mount ~ finally freeing him from danger.”

Where would we be without our hero paramedics?

Luckily, the doggie was brought to safety without any serious injury and proved to be rather jovial about his freedom at last.

“Apart from a few grazes, the lucky boy was in good spirits ~ standing, walking, drinking water, and happily wagging his tail shortly after being rescued. He was later taken to a local vet for a full check-up.”

We love happy endings like this one. The kind where people who, out of the kindness of their hearts, will go above and beyond the line of duty.

“A big thank you to everyone who stopped to help and showed compassion and teamwork in ensuring this story had a happy ending,” shared the responders.
